HKPC Welcomes Reappointment of Hon Sunny TAN as Chairman

(Hong Kong, 26 July 2024) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) welcomes the announcement by the HKSAR Government today (26 July) regarding the reappointment of Hon Sunny TAN to be the Chairman of HKPC for another two-year term starting from 6 August 2024.

HKPC expresses its deepest gratitude to Chairman TAN for his leadership over the past two years, during which HKPC has become a leading applied research institution in Hong Kong and one of the key enablers in nurturing new productive forces and facilitating new industrialisation in Hong Kong. In the past two years, HKPC's research and development (R&D) projects have achieved outstanding performance and garnered over 200 prestigious local, Mainland and international research awards and accolades, including the prestigious “Edison Awards” which is also known as the "Oscars of Innovation" and “R&D 100 Awards”. Recently in early July, HKPC established Hong Kong's first "Future Manufacturing Hall", showcasing revolutionary concepts of "Microfactory" and advanced manufacturing technologies for establishing smart production lines, marking a key milestone for Hong Kong in promoting industrial transformation and upgrade.

Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of HKPC, expressed his gratitude of being reappointed, "I am sincerely grateful for the trust of the HKSAR Government and affirmation of my work over the past two years, with my reappointment as HKPC’s Chairman. In the coming two-year term, I will continue leveraging my rich experience in the industrial sector to lead HKPC in promoting new productive forces, facilitating new industrialisation, and promoting the transformation of advanced R&D achievements from '1 to N', applying to areas including advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, to help traditional industries upgrade and transform, with a view to enhancing the overall competitiveness of 'Made in Hong Kong'. HKPC and I will take promoting Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology centre as our mission. We will leverage Hong Kong's strengths, serve national needs, attract talent and innovation resources, and help more Mainland enterprises tap into overseas markets, so as to help Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area seize new opportunities.”

Mr Mohamed D. BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, firmly believes that under the leadership of Chairman TAN, HKPC will become an empowering force for technology innovation, technology application and value creation in the future. Through advanced technologies, FutureSkills training and Government funding schemes, HKPC will fully support traditional industries in upgrading and transforming, foster the growth of emerging industries, and help develop future industries, with the goal of achieving new productive forces. HKPC, at all levels, will continue supporting the Chairman, Council Members, and management to pave the way for a new chapter of industrial transformation, promoting the development of new productive forces in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area and contributing to high-quality development of the nation.
