Advanced decolorisation process for landfill leachate

At present, landfill leachate is pre-treated at the leachate treatment facility and then discharged to the sewage treatment facility for further treatment. However, existing facilities cannot remove colored non-biodegradable organics present in landfill leachate. To address this issue, HKPC has actively developed an innovative composite chemical precipitation process that utilised its own research and development of formulated chemicals to provide an efficient treatment process that significantly removes colored non-biodegradable organic matter from the landfill leachates.

Service Details:
  • Use HKPC formulated chemicals to precipitate colored non-biodegradable organics, achieving >90% color removal and >70% organic (COD) removal
  • Achieve similar removal performance to membrane filtration, but with lower operating expense
  • Benefits comparing to conventional membrane filtration applications
    • Reduce carbon emission by about 90%
    • Simpler treatment process
  • According to literature reviews, it is believed to be the first global method using chemical process to achieve high color and organic removal in landfill leachate treatment
