The Third Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards Invite Entries

Hong Kong companies and professionals in the digital entertainment industry are invited to participate in The Third Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards (HKDEEA) organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau of HKSAR Government, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (DEA) and Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA).

The launch ceremony of the Award Scheme was officiated today (30 November 2004) by Mr Alan Wong, Government Chief Information Officer, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, HKSAR Government; Mr K K Yeung, Executive Director, HKPC; Mr Sin Chung Kai, Legislative Councillor - Information Technology and Chairman of the Grand Jury of the Third HKDEEA; Mr Victor Dao, Chairman, DEA; and Mr Ken Fong, Vice Chairman, WTIA.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr K K Yeung said, "Now in its third year, the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards aims to recognise outstanding achievements and creativity of the local digital entertainment industry."

"With the implementation of the CEPA agreement, new business horizons are opening up for Hong Kong's digital entertainment industry. Hong Kong has a sound information infrastructure, a pool of local talents who are experienced in the applications of leading edge technologies, as well as a strong industrial base in film production, broadcasting, wireless technology and advertising. Under this favourable environment, local digital entertainment industry is well-positioned to capture the new business opportunities offered by CEPA," Mr Yeung said.

To recognise creative digital entertainment works from all sectors, the Third HKDEEA has included the Professional Category and Open Category. Both Categories will honour the best productions in computer animation, digital effects, computer/TV and mobile entertainment software.

All entries should not be published or released commercially on or before 1 January, 2004 and will be judged according to originality, creativity, entertainment value, technology and business potential. All companies registered in Hong Kong and Hong Kong permanent residents are eligible to compete in the Professional Category and Open Category respectively.

The winning entries will be honoured at an award presentation ceremony in March 2005. In addition, special awards will be presented for outstanding productions by start-up companies and full-time students.
