HKPC Organizes Study Mission to Guangdong to Explore Business Opportunities in Chinese Medicine

To assist local manufacturers to tap business opportunities in the Chinese medicine industry, the Economic and Trade Commission of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the Hong Kong Society of Chinese Medicine, the Guangdong Food and Drug Administration, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong of the HKSAR Government will jointly organize a study mission to Guangdong from 28 to 30 August 2006.

Mr Joseph Poon, General Manager (CEPA Business Development and IP) of HKPC, said, "With the world-wide rising popularity of traditional Chinese medicine and health food, Hong Kong manufacturers should gear up to capture new business opportunities in this booming industry."

"As a leader in the Mainland's pharmaceutical industry, the Guangdong Province is home to many state-level Chinese medicine manufacturing facilities and a cluster of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-certified enterprises. The Province is a major producer as well as distributor of Chinese medicine and health food on the Mainland," he said.

"Through this study mission, Hong Kong manufacturers can learn how GMP is implemented on the Mainland and explore the feasibility of processing traditional Chinese medicinal products. They will also gain an understanding of the Mainland's pharmaceutical trade and retail market, and the investment opportunities during visits to manufacturers, distributors and retailers in Guangdong," he said.
