Growth Leadership Forum Brings Insights to Local Enterprises on Doing Business on the Mainland

More than 400 representatives from the local manufacturing and service sectors today (17 January 2007) attended the "Growth Leadership Forum" organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). The event was sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong), with the Support and Consultation Centre for SMEs of the Trade and Industry Department of the HKSAR Government as the supporting organization.

Under the theme of "Magic Key of Doing Business in China", the event aimed to provide a platform for local enterprises to keep abreast of the related market intelligence and industrial policies of doing business on the Mainland.

The opening ceremony of the Forum was officiated by Ms Joyce Tam, Assistant Director-General of Trade and Industry, HKSAR Government, and Mr Edmund Sung, Director of Business Productivity, HKPC.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Sung said, "In the recently presented Report and Action Agenda of the Economic Summit on 'China's 11th Five-Year Plan and the Development of Hong Kong', over 200 specific measures were set out covering all major economic sectors."

"On the challenges faced by Hong Kong companies, the Report said that many Hong Kong SMEs on the Mainland fall short of the industry and environmental requirements under the 11th Five-Year Plan," he said.

According to Mr Sung, HKPC is committed to supporting the development of local SMEs. "In the light of the business opportunities and challenges posed by the 11th Five-Year Plan, we would continue to support enterprises in implementing cleaner production measures, developing branding excellence, enhancing logistics efficiency, and opening up CEPA business opportunities," he added.

Panelists from the banking, legal and accounting sectors outlined the essential requirements for business development in China at the Forum. They also addressed the current business environment and difficulties for local enterprises on the Mainland, and shared their successful experience in market expansion.
