(Hong Kong, 11 July 2019) Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems (APAS) R&D Centre of Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today organises its annual showcase featuring "5G in Smart Mobility", with local and international experts presenting at technical seminars and R&D results showcasing. The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Ivan Lee, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Innovation and Technology Bureau; Mr Eric Pang, Deputy Director (Trading Services) of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department; Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC; and Dr Lawrence Cheung, CEO of APAS R&D Centre of HKPC.
"Aligning with the emerging technology trend, this year's showcase features 5G applications in smart mobility. Given the tremendous business opportunities generated by 5G dedicated to autonomous technologies, HKPC takes lead to promote the development of 5G applications in Hong Kong," said Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, at the opening ceremony.
He added, "HKPC is collaborating with China Mobile Hong Kong for the installation of a 5G radio site within the HKPC premise, starting from the APAS Lab on LG2/F. This will support the 5G applications development of APAS Autonomous R&D Platform. There is also plan to expand the 5G network coverage to other levels within the building, as well as outdoor area, supporting innovative technology development and autonomous vehicle trials in 5G, especially for local SMEs."

Despite the technical seminar and showcase, APAS also signed several MoUs respectively with 6 organisations and corporations today, including China Mobile Hong Kong, European Automotive Council, The Autoware Foundation, UISEE, Wah For Development Company Limited and ZTE Corporation. These MoUs allow co-operations among APAS and those parties for future R&D applications development and enhancement.
