HKPC Seeks to Take Industries Further Towards Reindustrialisation with New Look in the Digital Era

(Hong Kong, 24 May 2019) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today unveiled its new corporate identity, pledging to rejuvenate the Hong Kong business sector and to continue leading the charge in digital transformation and the realisation of reindustrialisation. The kick-off ceremony of “Unveiling HKPC · The Future Paradigm” was officiated by Dr the Hon Lam Ching-Choi, Non-Official Member of the Executive Council of the HKSAR Government, together with Dr David Chung, the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology; Mr Willy Lin, Chairman, and Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC. They were also joined at the ceremony by HKPC’s industry partners, government officials, and professional body representatives from around the world.

On top of launching its new corporate identity and two brand new theme galleries – “Digital@HKPC” (Digital Transformation) and “Living@HKPC” (Smart Living), HKPC also announced several new initiatives to promote the use of innovative technologies among Hong Kong companies; facilitate the development of reindustrialisation, smart living, advanced manufacturing industry in Hong Kong; and enable companies to grasp new business opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. These include:

• To organise a series of thematic seminars under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Productivity Lecture of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Productivity Service Consortium, whom HKPC co-founded with the productivity centres of Mainland China and Macao at the end of last year, with renowned experts from the Greater Bay Area, rest of Mainland China and overseas offering related training and latest information on the development of the Greater Bay Area for enterprises and technology service providers. The first Hong Kong seminar will be held in mid June at HKPC’s SME One, featuring officials from Pingshan District, Shenzhen, as guest speakers;
• To establish a new one-stop service exchange platform for SMEs in the Greater Bay Area, fostering multilateral collaboration and exchange among enterprises to realise their goal of “go global and attract foreign investment”, and a Smart Property Assessment Centre to protect the Intellectual property of companies, supporting technology transfer in the Greater Bay Area;
• To host the two-day “AI Impulse 2019” (http://www.aiimpulse.org/) on 17 and 18 June, featuring an ensemble of artificial intelligence and IT experts from Germany, United States, Mainland China and Hong Kong who will share their insights on the innovative applications of AI technology in various industries with enterprise representatives;
• Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with UBTECH ROBOTICS CORP LTD, a smart robotics company from Mainland China, for collaboration in R&D, training and other activities in the realm of artificial intelligence and robotics, in promoting the development of related technologies, AI and STEM education in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area; and
• Presentation of the Industry 4.0 (i4.0) “1i Maturity Level Recognition” Certificate to Trio Engineering Company Limited – the first Hong Kong electronics manufacturing services provider to achieve the world class performance as a show of HKPC’s commitment in promoting reindustrialisation and the industry’s migration to i4.0. Trio’s visionary direction in bringing i4.0 into their everyday practice has made a good model among peers in the industrial sector, encouraging others to pursue the same successful path.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, said, “HKPC has always moved with times and grown together with Hong Kong industries. Riding on Hong Kong businesses tapping new opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and the government’s active promotion of I&T development, the new look HKPC will continue to provide the latest applied technologies and all-rounded innovative solutions, in promoting the reindustrialisation and upgrading of companies in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to i4.0 and enterprise 4.0, and contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation centre.”

By leveraging its 52 years of experience, HKPC has developed and introduced various advanced solutions and innovative services to raise the productivity and efficiency of enterprises and reduce their operating costs. With 60% of its clients being SMEs, HKPC undertakes over 1,000 business projects annually, in which 90% are for industrial applications, maintaining the local and international edges of enterprises.

Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “Apart from its commitment to serve local industries, HKPC also hopes to incorporate the concept of ‘citizen inclusion’ in our new look, conveying a refreshing image to enterprises and the general public. The new logo features a robotic hand to symbolise HKPC’s edge on the use of innovative technologies to give industries a helping hand through the provision of practical one-stop service and training for enterprises in every stage of their journey in digital transformation and reindustrialisation. The 630-strong HKPC also wishes to go hand in hand with different sectors of the community in building a better smart city.

In addition, HKPC will hold a public open day tomorrow (25 May) to showcase its new identity and latest R&D achievements from digital transformation and smart living. The Inno Fair jointly organised by HKPC’s Inno Space and the Hong Kong Makers Club will concurrently be held, featuring the innovative works of local innovators and schools as well as thematic maker workshops for the public to sign up.
