【July 5, 2024|Hong Kong】The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) launched "Summer TechEd Fest 2024" today, marking the beginning of one of the largest innovation and technology education events in Hong Kong. Themed "A+STEM", the Fest this year emphasises the integration of arts into technology, fostering creativity and interdisciplinary learning amongst Hong Kong's youths.

Ms. Lillian CHEONG, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, shared her congratulatory message in a video to celebrate the opening of "Summer TechEd Fest 2024" while the ceremony was officiated by Mr. Emil YU, BBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of HKPC, and Dr. Lawrence CHEUNG, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC.

The two-day“Summer TechEd Fest 2024” is held at the HKPC Building from July 5 to July 6. The Fest is open to all, particularly families and young tech enthusiasts, to experience more than 100 interactive game booths, workshops and experience zones, immersing them in the world of STEAM through fun, educational games and hands-on experiences, unleashing their unlimited potentials. The theme this year highlights the integration of Arts into STEM, which aims at cultivating students' interdisciplinary learning abilities, creativity and problem-solving skills that are critical competencies for the future.

Ms. Lillian Cheong, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, believes that the sharing of experts and STEAM activities at the Fest will stir up students’ as well as the public’s interest in science and technology, contributing to the growth of local I&T talent pool. “The HKSAR Government has been dedicated to promoting STEAM education, with an aim at guiding our next generation to receive systematic science education from an early age and building a workforce with skillsets in tandem with new quality productive forces development. We hope everyone can join us in providing more platforms and opportunities to support the I&T development of our youths, while working collectively for Hong Kong to become an international I&T centre.” Cheong said.

Apart from supporting I&T development, HKPC has been working tirelessly on promoting the development of new productive forces and new industrialisation. Mr. Emil YU, BBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of HKPC, expressed his gratitude for the support received from over 50 organisations, including government departments, educational institutions, I&T sectors, and youth groups during "Summer TechEd Fest 2024." This widespread support showcases the significance of TechEd within the community. YU emphasised the theme of "Innovation Reshapes Everything," which serves as HKPC's slogan for the year. He underscored the crucial role of nurturing talent as a foundation for the development of innovation and technology. YU specifically highlighted the contribution of the HKPC Academy in cultivating future innovators through various initiatives such as workshops, TechEd competitions, training bootcamps, and more. These programmes aim to equip the younger generation with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital era.

Following the overwhelming responses last year, the Fest 2024 is supported by the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, the Innovation and Technology Commission, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, and the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, along with a group of STEAM education partners, schools, and I&T organisations. The Fest has been scaled up with an extensive array of content compared to previous years. The response from schools and the public has also been very enthusiastic, making it one of the most anticipated TechEd events in Hong Kong.

The Fest introduces Art Tech elements to inspire students' artistic talents. The opening ceremony featured a captivating performance by "e-Orch" from the Education University of Hong Kong. The performance showcased a harmonious blend of traditional and modern music through cross-platform creation, setting the stage for a celebration of arts and technology.

Additionally, the event has invited Heiman NG, Founder & Director of Art Prince Advisory and Guest Lecturer at HKU Business School, as well as several experts from the art and TechEd field to share insights on the topic "Integrating A+STEM for TechEd: Cultivating Diverse Talents." The panelists shared insights into enhancing students' creativity and artistic literacy through an interdisciplinary education approach.

Popular young actors Sean WONG (黃梓樂) and actress Phoebe CHENG (鄭淽月), who recently featured in HKPC's microfilm, attended the opening ceremony and interacted with attendees at some of the STEAM workshops and interactive booths, including drone soccer, VR360 metaverse, and F1 car racing. They also designed and made their personalised night lights, and other 3D-printed items, bringing their creativity to life through the makers' workshops.
